GEMS: Have you noticed that when you smile at someone, they just have to smile back?
Smiles are infectious! You share a smile with someone, and they feel good, and pass that smile on to someone else. When we are kind to someone, it not only makes them feel good, it makes us feel better too! Here are 10 ways to be kind to others. Let’s all pick some things from this list, and see if we can spread a smile this week!
1. Smile and Say Hello to Someone!
You never know, it might be the only smile they get that day! Be Friendly! Introduce yourself to someone at school that you don’t know. Strike up a conversation with them. Be excited to hear what they have to say!
2. Donate Clothes to Charity!
There are lots of girls and boys that don’t have money for nice clothes to wear to school. Just think how that would make them smile to have a new cute outfit. They would love to have some of the nice things that are too small for you now. You can donate your gently used clothes to charity, or give them to someone you know that would love to have them!
3. Get Well Cards!
Make Get Well Cards for anyone who is sick. This will cheer them up and make them feel better to know that someone is thinking of them.
4. Call Grandma and Grandpa!
Give Grandma or Grandpa a call, or write them a letter and send it in the mail. And if you live close, go spend time with them! They love to see you or hear from you. They miss you and love to know that you want to talk to them!
5. Say Good Job!
Look around and see what other people are doing. Tell someone that you think they’re doing a good job. It could be anyone! Tell your mom what a good job she does making healthy food for you. Tell your teacher that you think they’re a great teacher. Tell the janitor at school thank you for keeping the school clean. Everyone likes to be appreciated and praised for their work.
6. Open the Door!
Hold the door open for someone! It could be a car door, or a door at school, at a restaurant, or at a store. You can do this anywhere!
7. Visit a Nursing Home!
Ask your parents or your teacher to take you and a group of your friends to visit a nursing home. You could sing songs or play games with the older people who live there. Sometimes they don’t get any visitors, and they LOVE seeing kids!
8. Write Thank You Notes!
Write thank you notes. Decorate them to make them pretty. You can give them to just about anyone … your mom and dad, a teacher, a coach, the cooks in the cafeteria. Tell them that you appreciate everything they do for you!
9. Help with animals!
Have your parents check to see if you could volunteer at an animal shelter. They may need help cleaning the cages, walking the dogs, and holding the kitties!
10. Clean your room!
This will make your mom and dad smile for sure! They love a clean room!
GEMS! We hope you share lots of smiles this week! Let us know in the comments if you have any other ideas for how to share a smile!
